CURRENT NEWS

VALLEJO – The Vallejo Police Department is continuing the process of assessing its policies, programs, and procedures to better serve the Vallejo community. As part of that ongoing process, the Department would like to engage Vallejo residents and stakeholders in providing public comments and feedback on proposed changes to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct policies.  “The heart of leadership and the character of our organization begins with ethics,” Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “As we include all department and community stakeholders in the process of change, we also want to ensure that we are actively listening, engaging, and building upon a solid foundation of core ethical principles.  “Improved policies allow us to achieve this goal and connect with our core values of service through humility, empathy, collaboration and respect,” Chief Williams continued.  Over the last several months, the Vallejo Police Chief’s Community Advisory Board has reviewed the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct policies in detail, and has made several recommendations, which have been included in the attached policy drafts. The policies have also been submitted to the Vallejo Police Officers’ Association, other unions and all department members for review and feedback.  As part of our VPD Implementation Plan, OIR Report recommendations and collaboration with the California, Department of Justice, your feedback is integral to continuing our reform efforts. To review the policy drafts and provide your feedback, please visit the following webpage: https://www.myvallejo.com/vpd-policy-for-review
The forum will be open for public comment from July 13, 2021 through August 16, 2021.
