Empress Theater

This Beaux Arts landmark offers a variety of entertainment. Their signature Wednesday Night music series features a variety of music including blues, Americana, rockabilly, soul and funk. It also hosts comedy, local theater productions, community events, and a film club for cinema buffs.

The Vallejo Symphony

The Vallejo Symphony, California’s second oldest, has been entertaining audiences since 1932. The Vallejo Symphony is an orchestra with regional appeal, featuring some of the finest musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  Obtainium Works

The home of artists, inventors, tinkerers and pranksters, it is also the home of the Hibernian Academy of UnNatural Sciences, and the famous Neverwashaul.  They feature Sunday workshops and produce events throughout the year. If you want to volunteer, you need to sign a waiver and show us what tools you are qualified to use. You have to be approved by Shannon or Kathy before you can work!

Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum

The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum, located in the old City Hall,  preserves and exhibits the history of the City of Vallejo and the former U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island. Don’t miss the working submarine periscope which is installed though the roof with excellent views of the City and Mare Island.  For upcoming art exhibits and performances visit the website.

    The McCune Collection

Located at the ground floor of the JFK Library, this highly regarded collection includes 15th Century French Illuminated manuscripts, original leaves from Chaucer circa 1500, and printings of Shakespeare’s plays circa 1600 as well as historic, functioning printing presses. The McCune Room is open to the public on the first and third Tuesday of the month 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, every Saturday from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, and during the 2nd Friday Art Walk.  For more information, visit their website.

History Speaks: Vallejo Heritage Architectural Walking Tour

Vallejo boasts one of the best collections of historic homes and old commercial and industrial buildings to be found in the Bay Area.  Historic Walking Tour maps of Downtown Vallejo and the surrounding areas, created by the Architectural Heritage and Landmarks Commission, are available at the Vallejo Visitors Authority at the Ferry Building, City Hall, and the Museum.
