Christina McPherson of Vallejo said she thought it really made no sense that there aren’t boutiques for men, especially considering most of the ones she knows are at least as finicky about their wardrobe as women are. So, she opened one.
The result is Chrissy Mac’s Place at 1718 Sonoma Boulevard, which opened Nov. 11.
It’s not called a boutique, though, because that might sound too feminine, she said.
“I wanted it to be called a ‘place,’ instead,” she said.
The 11-year dental hygienist and single mother of one, opened Chrissy Mac’s Place right across the street from her own mother’s store, Stephanie’s Boutique. The Hurcules native moved to Vallejo in 2003.
While dental hygienist is still McPherson’s “day job,” the clothing store or something like it was almost inevitable, she said.
“I always wanted to do something that has to do with fashion,” she said. “I love clothes. I used to model. When I go places, I tend to draw attention, and I’m told I have an energy about me. So, after my mom opened her boutique, and because I’m seeing Vallejo starting to come up, I thought up the idea of opening a men’s boutique.”
McPherson said she’s worked hard to create a “good vibe” in the store, and to offer something not necessarily so easy to find in Vallejo.
“We carry business casual attire for men,” she said. “Vallejo doesn’t have much of that, and men need a place to shop for clothes to look nice in, without having to go to the mall.”
Recent customer Candy Dixon said she plans to send her boyfriend to Chrissy Mac’s Place because it seems to carry threads she thinks he’ll appreciate.
“I think this is beautiful,” she said. “Very nice.”
Shirt sizes range from medium to 3X, and pants, from size 32 to 40 and prices range from about $35 for a shirt to $45 or $50 for jeans and about $100 for a blazer, McPherson said.
Chrissy Mac’s Place is open Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday through Thursday by appointment. (707) 515-0615
