CURRENT NEWS

As part of a larger effort to restore and preserve the historic Naval Cemetery, the City of Vallejo applied for and received approval from the Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program to perform maintenance and repairs at the Mare Island Naval Cemetery. The IRT Program is a collaboration that leverages military and community resources.

The IRT will provide design, labor and heavy equipment, while the City of Vallejo committed to provide funding for materials to repair or replace the fence, install flag pole lighting, install a concrete drainage ditch, and provide minor grading for soil stabilization. The City of Vallejo will be providing materials for the project.

IRT will be on site beginning Saturday, September 7, 2019, to remove and store the perimeter fence material, which is the first step to prepare the site for grading and drainage improvements. Based on IRT availability, the remaining construction is scheduled for the summer of 2020.

Future project updates will be posted on the City’s website, and for questions or inquiries regarding this IRT project at the Mare Island Naval Cemetery, please contact the Public Works Engineering Division at (707) 648-4315 or by email at Engineering@cityofvallejo.net.
