City of Vallejo Appoints New City Manager
The Vallejo City Council appointed Greg Nyhoff as the next City Manager and authorized an employment agreement on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 during its regular City Council meeting. Mr. Nyhoff will begin employment as Vallejo’s City Manager on January 22, 2018. “Mr. Nyhoff comes to this position with a wealth of knowledge and experience, but most of all, his vision for Vallejo is aligned with the Council’s goals and will build on our recent successes as a city,” said Mayor Bob Sampayan. “The Council is pleased and excited that he and his family plan to be residents of Vallejo and make this their community. It meant a lot to the Council that he was willing to incorporate that into his employment contract and it speaks volumes of his commitment to Vallejo.” He has over thirty-one years of public administration experience with twenty-three years as city manager for municipalities in California, Colorado and Michigan. He is currently the City Manager for the City of Oxnard, California since June 2014, where he has led a full service organization of 1,500 employees providing services to a population of 207,000 residents. Prior to Oxnard he was City Manager of Modesto, California for six years. Mr. Nyhoff launched community programs between police and residents; rolled out Oxnard 311 to allow the public to submit real time, non-emergency service requests using smart phones; “Summer at City Hall” internship program; conducted organizational assessments and financial audits revealing severe financial instability and operational deficiencies; and initiated leadership development programs for City staff with focus on customer service. Mr. Nyhoff possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration/Economics from Calvin College located in
Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr Nyhoff shared his appreciation and thoughts in a letter to Mayor Sampayan and City Councilmembers. The letter is attached. He has demonstrated experience in building strong relationships in diverse communities between businesses, non-profits, military
