On August 24, 2019, the Robbin Mackbee Firefighter/EMS Youth Academy will be hosting the John Wells Public Safety Scholarship fundraiser at the Empress Theater. The evening will be a celebration of community as well as a way of honoring one of Vallejo’s distinguished leaders, Assistant Fire Chief John Wells (deceased). Chief Wells was the first African-American firefighter in Vallejo, a beloved member of the community member, and a role model to firefighters. He embraced diversity, inclusiveness, and equity in the fire service.
